On Tuesday, July 12 at 10 a.m., a piece of Winona history will make its way down Third Street from the East End Fire Station (451 E. Third St.) in Winona, MN to the Winona County History Center (160 Johnson St.). The Winona Fire Department is donating their 1904 Metropolitan Fire Steamer that was used to pump water for Winona's Fire Department during the early 20th century.
This beautiful piece of equipment will be paraded down Third street pulled by a team of horses to its new home in the entry of the Winona County History Center. It will join the other early fire fighting equipment on exhibit, including an earlier hand pumper, hose carts, hook and ladder wagon and an ornate ceremonial fireman's trumpet.
The public is invited to watch the transfer of the steamer. It will leave the fire station at 10 a.m. and will travel down Third St. to the History Center. Plan your visit to the Winona County HIstory Center at www.winonahistory.org or call 507-454-2723.
