The Winona State University Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter held its third annual Spooky Sprint 5K Run, Walk, Bike, Blade event on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Winona’s Lake Park West.  Approximately 50 runners registered to participate, according to chapter president Tim Ackermann.

Funds raised are donated to the Winona County Habitat for Humanity and Collegiate Challenge.  Several entrants dressed for the approaching holiday donning Halloween costumes that were judged for prizes.

The annual fundraiser started at 9:00 a.m. on a crisp 29-degree morning, with the 5K top male runner, Matt Wenthe of Galesville, WI, completing the 3.1 mile course in just under 22 minutes.

Ackermann said that part of the proceeds will help underwrite costs associated with Habitat for Humanity projects that the WSU club attends, both locally and in other states.
