The Winona State University Marketing Department will present Steve Mireau, a musician and motivational speaker, at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 28, in the Recital Hall, Performing Arts Center. At 9:30 p.m. Mireau will move his performance to Brewski’s Pub and Grill at the Riverport Inn.
Mireau played guitar in a band and took home numerous trophies in motocross prior to an accident in August 2007, when he severed his spinal cord and broke his neck, leaving him quadriplegic. Doctors told Mireau he would never walk or play guitar again, but Mireau beat the odds.
“I have a different vision or some say optimism,” said Mireau. “I’m going to continue on and never quit believing that I will overcome this obstacle!”
Mireau will demonstrate how he plays guitar on his self-made guitar stand, which allows him to play with limited hand function. He currently performs throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin with his newly formed band. Mireau also plays Murderball on the Minnesota North Stars Quad Rugby Team.
T-shirts and guitar picks will be available for purchase during and after his performances.
This event is free and open to the public.
