I just discovered a blog named EarthNotes at Winona 360 that might be of interest to some of the readers of Canaries in a Coal Mine, especially those concerned with sustainability. I've copied its description below:

The Saint Mary’s Green Team is presenting a five-part series on sustainability. On Wednesday, March 17, the topic will be “Food.” Mary Gleich, Curt Coshenet, Chris Kendall and Chris McClead will lead a discussion on how food affects and is affected by climate change, including locally grown foods, composting, gardening, farming, Fair Trade, starvation, and other topics.

This invasive species has slowly been heading north, leaving a path of destruction and broken ecosystems in their wake and is reaching ever nearer to the Great Lakes
Almost every day, something new is found out about Asian Carp and their disastrous impact. The dilemma just keeps growing and growing. When Asian Carp were first discovered in the United States, the fish were located in the Gulf region. This invasive species has slowly been heading north, leaving a path of destruction and broken ecosystems in their wake.

WSU’s Cultural Outreach will hold a Chinese New Year Celebration from 4:30-7:30 p.m. in the Student Activity Center, Kryzsko Commons. Students will share their cultural heritage through presentations, table displays, artifacts, dances and songs. Authentic food including chicken with potatoes and beans, fried rice, vegetarian broccoli and garlic, egg rolls and tea will be served at 5 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
