I’ve been avoiding this blog… mostly because I’m still wandering about in the land of loss, pain and disbelief. I’m beginning to wonder if anyone intimately touched by violence, anyone left bereft by violence, ever really leaves this place fully.

Her days consist of morning lectures in class, followed by an exhausting, sweat-filled basketball practice and ending with a night lecture. Toss in lifting and intramural sports and Michelle McDonald is left with little time for sleep.
McDonald, a forward on the Winona State University women’s basketball team, is an elementary education major with an emphasis in early childhood education.

Most years I can't wait to get to my holiday letter. I like updating in a self-deprecating, newsy sort-of-way. As the month cruises by, I get cards and holiday letters with little notes in them that say, "Looking forward to your letter". I like that others look forward to reading as much as I do writing it.
But this year I really struggled.
Generally, I like to write what I might like to read. Hinting at the downside suggests that no one life...

In but a fortnight I will be departing this place. I was reflecting yesterday on this, my last week teaching at Fanaka. As many people might, I have fears and regrets--or at least those garish seedlings which might blossom into the bright, poisonous flowers of potent regret. The world feels alive and positively crackling with possibility. While I don't feel as jubilant as others for the loss of EVIL MAN, it does seem to be some small justification for all the horrific loss of the last ten years.
