I work in the best kind of retail situation, a small, independent bookstore situated next to a cafe whose great coffee and scones (maple scones with drippy maple icing) test my will every time I work.   Eleanor Roach is used to waking up every day at 5 a.m. Supporting herself with her cane Roach, 91, walked from her bedroom through her small kitchen to her living room in her Winona Watkins Manor apartment, looking expectantly for the daily newspaper that is slid underneath her door each morning.

The Winona State University car rental program offered to students, faculty and staff may not be available next fall. Kurt Lohide, vice president for finance and administrative services at WSU, said the Zipcar program on campus is struggling with the amount of student use required for the program to be sustainable--an average of 8 to 10 hours a day.

How do we create a culture of hope, possibilities, and encouragement instead of a culture of hopelessness, limitations and discouragement?
Okay, so I don’t really buy into that whole “If you think positive, positive things will start happening to you...” stuff. Really, I don’t. However, I have realized in my short 3.5 years of ministry that communicating positive things is essential.
